The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Utah is an internationally renowned center of basic and applied interdisciplinary research. The Department offers two graduate degrees: the Master of Science (M.S.) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Graduate students can pursue research and educational opportunities in bioinstrumentation, medical imaging, biomaterials, biomechanics, neural interfaces, computational biomedical engineering and other specialty areas.

Based on her involvement with the National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenge Scholar program, Daria Nesterovich, graduate student in Biomedical Engineering at the U was asked to be the first speaker, prior to the opening talk, at the first ever White House conference on the BRAIN Initiative. Daria talked about the research into improving treatment efficacy in deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease that she is doing in Prof. Dorval’s laboratory.
