The Department of Biomedical Engineering has recently launched an external search for a new Chair. After 18 years as a Chair at Utah, 8 of these as BME Chair, current Chair David Grainger has decided to step down to re-engage his professional career as a “normal faculty”. Grainger proclaims “I have been proud to remain a long-serving BME chair but at this point, I’ve been Chair for so long, I’ve forgotten how it is to be faculty, pursue a balanced faculty career, and chase those ambitions that normal faculty can chase in teaching, research, scholarly production and professional service”. He has assisted in advising the search process, strategy and launch. The Department is hopeful to attract a vibrant, talented, nationally visible and recognized BME leader to join the Department and assume the Chair’s job sometime in 2025.
